Duties:The President/CEO is the chief executive officer of the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce and is accountable for the organization. The president oversees all program initiatives; membership recruitment, development and retention; hiring; training and supervision of staff; and developing and maintaining a collaborative working relationship between the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, business, and the community-at-large to foster a robust business environment for the members and business community. He/she oversees the Economic Development Division and Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. Through the budget and finance committee, the president is responsible for developing the Chamber budget and for all expenditures within the budget. With staff members, the president is responsible for maintaining the membership at a level that ensures necessary income for the operation of the program. The president must lead the Chamber’s government affairs and military affairs efforts. He/she must develop and ensure contact with elected officials at the city, county, state, national level. The president must be aware of government issues and keep members informed on government actions that can affect the businesses and organizations. The successful candidate will earn the respect of the board of directors, community, and key stakeholders by developing strong relationships and a long-term vision necessary for a thriving Chamber of Commerce. He/she will be a proven, results-oriented leader who motivates and inspires the Chamber’s volunteer leaders and staff in championing local business interests, growing the economy, and identifying new program opportunities that address issues of importance in San Angelo and surrounding communities.
Experience Required:Minimum 5 years in an executive leadership role. Chamber management preferred. Strong leadership and organizational skills. Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills required. High-level understanding of economic development and the tourism industry. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other Characteristics: Strong leadership and organizational skills. Consensus builder; inclusive and collaborative. Fiscally responsible.
